Citing a work

Every document on this site carries a colophon with a ready-made citation string — author, title, site name, year, and canonical URL. Every paragraph also carries its own visible number in the margin (a real link, at all times, with no hovering required), so you can cite or link to a specific passage rather than the work as a whole. Right-click (or Cmd/Ctrl-click) the number to copy its address, or click it to jump there and copy the link automatically.

For a still more precise citation (a specific sentence or phrase rather than a whole paragraph), select the text you want and use your browser's own "Copy Link to Highlighted Text" feature (in Chrome and Edge, right-click a selection to find it), or append your own #:~:text=your phrase here fragment to a paragraph's URL. This site doesn't build a separate tool for that: the browser's version already does it well, and a hand-built addition would only duplicate it less reliably.
